This interactive course is designed to provide OT practitioners with a comprehensive understanding to the physiological, psychological and social factors that impact acute and chronic pain. It will present the biopsychosocial model for pain and how to apply it to OT assessment and treatment. This course will discuss the most recent national guidelines for the treatment of pain as well as opioid prescribing and how the guidelines impact occupational therapy practice. Participants will learn evidence-based non-pharmacological interventions for treating acute and chronic pain that can be utilized in everyday practice settings. Learning objectives will be met through course presentation, interactive practice, simulated clinical situations and case studies.
